Obituary

Mrs. Clotelle McGriff P. Richmond affectionately 
known as “Mrs. Clo” by family and friends earned 
her well-deserved rest on Saturday, August 28, 
2021, in her home surrounded by a few members of 
her family. Mrs. Clotelle was born on September 28, 
1922, in Fairfield County to the late Mr. John and Cora 
Henry McGriff. She was one of twelve children.
Mrs. Clotelle was educated at the Fairfield Training Schools. 
Although she only reached the 6 grade, she was a great advocate of 
higher education and spiritual education and was often speaking on 
how God had blessed her to see what she had seen and do what she 
had done. She joined St. John A. M. E. Church at an early age and 
was a devoted member. She also became a member of the Eastern 
Stars Evergreen Chapter No. 126, which she loved dearly.
Mrs. Clotelle never met a stranger and everyone was welcomed in her 
home. She loved everyone and everyone that met her loved her in 
return. She often had cavings for black coffee, fruitcake, red velvet or 
pound cake, and chitterlings. She loved to travel on long vacations or 
short trips. 
Mrs. Clotelle was employed as a cafeteria operator for Fairfield 
Memorial Hospital, a textile employee for Charms Corp, and a 
Certified Nurses Assistant for Tanglewood Nursing Home. She also 
became a personal caregiver for the elderly until she retired 
completely.
Mrs. Clotelle was preceded in death by one son; Master Johnny B. 
Kennedy, one Grandaughter Mrs. Gwendolyn D. Green and 9 her 
siblings: Monroe McGriff, Herbert McGriff, Charlie McGriff, Guy 
McGriff, Izetta McGriff, Maggie McGriff Sims, John McGriff Jr, 
Eddie McGriff , and Henry McGriff. 
Mrs. Clotelle’s legacy will always be remembered by those she left to 
carry on; two daughters; Mrs. Barbara Jean (Julius) Nettles of the 
home, Mrs. Shirley (Mathew) Shannon of Baltimore, Md, 
Granddaughters; Mrs. Kimyetta (Bryan) Gaither of Ridgeway, SC, 
Ms. Juliette N. Boulware of Winnsboro, SC, Mrs. Laurann (Kelvin) 
Edrington of Columbia, SC, 11 Great Grandchildren: Ms. Elizabeth 
C. Green, Ms. Barbara Jean Green, Ms. Christina Green, Mrs. Candice 
(LaVarcus) Haire, Miss. Olivia D. Gaither, Miss. Tiffany Shannon of 
Baltimore MD, Miss. Brittney K. Edrington, Miss. Jasmine M. 
Edrington, Mr. Kelvin C. Edrington Jr., Mr. Caden T. Edrington, 9 
Great Great Grandchildren: Carrie, Zachary, Tamia, Jashiya, Trinity, 
Jeremiah, Taneya, Logan, Kenneth-Quincey. One brother, Mr. Lloyd 
McGriff of Silver Springs, MD, and a host of nieces, nephews, other 
family and friends.
