Emma J. Hemphill was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend. She departed her earthly life peacefully on September 29, 2021, at Providence Hospital Downtown Columbia, SC.
Emma was born on December 29, 1956, to the late Booker T. and Roseanna Hemphill. She was raised in a loving Christian home and attended Weeping Mary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated Senior Choir member. She received her education in Fairfield County Public Schools graduating from Winnsboro High in 1974.
She spent her adulthood as a devoted laborer always working hard to provide for her family and ensure they were never in need. She was a faithful employee at Pruitt Health Tanglewood. Emma was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her one and only child and four beautiful grandchildren. She embraced every moment she had with them. Emma was known for her, “tell it like it is spirit” and would finish it by saying, “I still love you.”
Emma leaves to cherish her fond memories, Kokaca (Co-Co) her only child; Grandchildren Keyonna Shauntel Hemphill, Sequoia LaParis Hayward, Monterrius Markel Hemphill, and London A’dore Hemphill; Four sisters: Linda Hemphill Williams (Robert), Martha Hemphill, Carrie Hemphill, and Mary Hemphill; Two brothers: Booker T. (Jannie) Hemphill and John (Ernestine) Hemphill; One God child Kanisha Askins-Brown (Anthony), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom will miss her dearly.
