Mrs. Florie Jacobs Mobley was born in Winnsboro, SC on March 4, 1935. She was the youngest child of the late Mr. John and Mrs. Lizzie Bell (Darby) Jacobs. She entered eternal rest on December 2, 2020, after a brief stay in Lexington Medical Center. Flo attended the public schools of Fairfield County and after graduating from Fairfield County Training School she matriculated to South Carolina State College. Flo spent a year at SCSU but quickly realized that her future was in New York City.
After moving to New York, Flo held several office jobs before finding her niche with TIAA-CREF. She was active in the community and in her church. Flo was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Jamaica Queens, NY.
In December of 1987, Flo retired from TIAA-CREF and returned to Winnsboro. For some time Flo worked in the community served on the board of the Council on Aging, and also served as a bailiff for the Fairfield County Court System. Florie became a faithful member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church. She worked diligently to support church ministries; but as usual, she favored the choir which allowed her to lift her voice in praise to her Heavenly Father. In the past few years, declining health prevented Flo from physically attending church; however, she continued to be a loyal member. During this time, her pastor and other
church members have been extremely supportive.
Our family will always have memories of her strong personality, her sharp wit, and the propensity to never hold back when it came to speaking her mind. Through it all, she captivated her audiences and left them with a lasting impression. She and her sister Carrie would love to serenade the family with their rendition of “Amazing Grace”¸ which would sometimes bring one to tears. We believe that she found comfort and joy in singing.
Florie was preceded in death by three sisters, (Catherine Jacobs Pinnock, Emma Jacobs Rainey, and Carrie Jacobs Woodward) and four brothers (John Coleman Jacobs, George Augustus Jacobs, Samuel Maceo Jacobs, and Lewis Albert Jacobs).
Flo leaves to cherish and sustain fond memories, her loving nieces; Yvonne Jacobs (Charlotte, NC), Sukari (Will) Pinnock-Fitts, Pamela Pinnock (all of Arlington Virginia), LaWanda (Morris) Irving (Orangeburg, SC), Darlene (Solomon) Levy (Macon, Georgia), Joyce E. Jacobs (Orangeburg, SC), Clevonne Jacobs (Durham, NC), April Jacobs (Summerville, SC), two nephews, Kevin Rainey (Brooklyn, NY), Douglas Houser (Orangeburg, SC), two sisters-in-law, Anna Jacobs (Orangeburg, SC) and Shirley Jacobs (Summerville, SC), as well as a host of family and friends.
