Mrs. Geraldine Washington James was born September 26th, 1951 in Winnsboro, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Robert Washington and the late Hattie B. Washington.
Geraldine was educated in the public schools of Fairfield County and graduated from McCrorey Liston High School, Class of 1969.
She was a government employee for 33 years, retiring from the South Carolina Employment Security Commission in 2006.
Geraldine was a dedicated member of New Hope AME Church. She served as the Superintendent/Teacher of Sunday School for many years. She was also the President of the Church Choir, a member of the Steward Board (stewardess), a church Usher, and a member of the Missionary Society. She was also known to many as the "cake lady". She joyfully served her community by baking cakes for family and friends. Geraldine also volunteered as a mentor and a seamstress to a nonprofit organization, Perfect Pearlz, that is focused on the physical, social, and emotional development of young girls through dance, mentoring, and outreach.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie B. Washington, her brother Anthony Robert Washington, and her brother-in-law, Clint Telford.
Geraldine leaves to mourn her passing; her father, Robert Washington, her husband, Thomas E. James, her daughter, Ashli (Jamie) Baxter, her son, Anthony (Onediouth) James, her grandchildren, Karson Amir Baxter, and Journee Noelle Baxter; five sisters, Bettye (John) Brown, Ruby (Johnny) Brown, Barbara (David) Wood, Hazel (Joe) Rice, and Linda Telford; one brother, Stanley (Cathy) Washington; a special aunt, Mrs Gertrude Washington; and a host of relatives and dear friends.
