On Saturday, January 15, 2022, James Henry Wylie was
called home. The world lost a husband, father son, brother
and friend.
James was born March 17, 1952, to Minion Duren Jr. and
Henrietta Wylie-Sampson. James grew up in Shady Grove,
South Carolina, where he attended Old Fairfield School and
later graduated in the class of 1970. James went on to work
alongside his best friend for the next forty years at Gibson’s
Funeral Home. He took great pride in getting up every
morning and going to his job. He was a hard worker and
highly dedicated to being the best version of himself. James
was so much more than a smalltown man. He loved to paint,
cook and spend time with friends. He had a deep love for
his family, friends and living life to the max.
James was predeceased by his father, Minion Duren Jr., his
mother, Henrietta Wylie- Sampson and lastly, his brother,
Eddie E. Sampson.
James is survived by his children, Sheryll McDaniel, James
Wylie Jr. Akeia Wylie (Ashley) and Kadarro Wylie; his
wife, Cheryl Wylie; grandchildren, Amerika McDaniel,
Janiya White, APassionate McDaniel, APromesse
McDaniel-Robinson, Tashi McDaniel-Robinson, and
Kennedi Wylie. Lastly, James is survived by his siblings:
Ella Mae Sampson, Juanita Young (Sippie), Jeanetta
Sampson- Walker (Larry), Vernell Sampson, Kerry
Sampson (Lashunda) and Terry Sampson (Pearlean).
