Jenkinsville – The Rev. Luther Clifford Howard, III, 57, of Jenkinsville, died Friday, March 25, 2022. Born in Baltimore, MD he was a son of Laurena T. Banks, and the late Luther Clifford Howard, Jr. He was a graduate of Winnsboro High School class of 1983 and studied Broadcast Journalism at Benedict College from 1983 until 1986 later receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Inter-Disciplinary Studies in June of 2015. While attending Benedict he met and married the former Doris Patterson. Luther served in the SC Army National Guard and later became active duty. He served at Fort Jackson, SC, Fort Stewart, GA, Fort Picket, VA, Fort Benning, GA, and Coleman Barracks, Mannheim, Germany, where he graduated with honors from the US Army Communications School.
Rev. Howard later became a licensed carpenter, and laid the groundwork to start his own painting and lawn service company. He worked in the trucking industry for many years. In December 2006 Rev. Howard answered his call into ministry at White Hall A.M.E. Church and was licensed to preach in 2007. In April 2010 the A.M.E. Church licensed him to Evangelism. However, in March 2011 he was licensed to preach in the Baptist Church. Later in 2012 he successfully passed the written and oral Catechism Exam, Administered by the Gethsemane Baptist Association for Ordination.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 36 years, Doris Patterson Howard; his daughters, Teosha Howard and O’keevia Howard; his sisters: Marlo Koger (Joshua), Celestine Pough (Freddie), Willie Mae Banks, Dawn Joppy, Mia Tyer, Torene Howard, and Nichelle Howard; his brother: Darnell Howard; Maternal Grandmother Donnevia Thomas; Numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles cousins and friends. The funeral service for Rev. Howard will be held 10 o’clock, Thursday, March 31st in the chapel of Palmetto Funeral Service of the Midlands. Interment with Army Honors will be held at Noon at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 o’clock, Wednesday at the funeral home.
