Mr. Mark Small Sr., 72, of Winnsboro, South Carolina, departed this life Friday, December 3, 2021. He leaves with fond memories, his dedicated and loving wife of fifty (50) years, Mrs. Ethel D. Small, three daughters, Angel Underwood (Alex) of Chester, SC, Princess Small-Black (Walt) of Greenville, SC, Jackquline V. Smalls of Winnsboro, SC; one son, Mark Small Jr and devoted friend Catassia Lightner of Winnsboro, SC.
Mark was born November 1, 1949 to the late Will and Laura Small. He was educated in the Fairfield County School System. He worked in pulpwood for over 30 years, beginning in his teens. He was an active member of the Greater St. John A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a faithful and dedicated member of the Trustee Board for many years.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, John Small, James Small, Emanuel Small, Benjamin Small and three sisters, Gladys Small, Kansetta Irby Bell, and Willie-Mae Brodie.
He also leaves to cherish fond memories three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Adams (James) of Charlotte, Mrs. Henrietta Sanford of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Mrs. Laura Ann Dewese (Willie) of Winnsboro, SC; one brother Samuel Smalls (Elizabeth) of Winnsboro, SC. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father. His generosity was contagious and undisputed. He was a dedicated and loyal friend to all who knew him. He loved his family, church, and community dearly and was a shining example of how unwavering faith and determination can overcome any of life’s struggles.
