Mr. Robert Williams Jr. was born October 25, 1944, in Lonestar, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Robert Williams Sr. and Annie Mae Whaley Williams. He entered eternal rest on May 18, 2022, at Providence-MUSC downtown. He was educated in the Richland County Public Schools.
He was an entrepreneur and owned several businesses. Most people knew him as the owner of Robert’s Exxon, Gulf, BP, and Auto Center.
Robert was united into holy matrimony to Annie Mae Miller on May 20, 1966. To this union two daughters were born.
Robert was a hardworking, well-known person in Columbia. He was a friend to all, and always enjoyed a good time. His favorite quote is ``I tell you No Lie.”
In his early years he served on the Steward board at Jones Memorial A.M.E.Z. Church. He later became an active member of I. DeQuincey Newman U.M.C. In 2016, he reunited with the Jones Memorial A.M.E.Z. Church family.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife Annie M. Williams of Columbia, SC, daughters Wendy (Jeffrey) Morrow of Charlotte, NC and Shonna Williams of Columbia, SC brother Willie Arthur Whaley of Columbia, SC sister Eartha Whaley Taylor of Columbia, SC, grandchildren Aminah F. Anderson, Anthony R. Morrow, Jason A.. Morrow, and Remmesha L. Lane. Only surviving Uncle Joe Nathan Whaley Sr. Cousins Shirley Johnson and Bob R. Jackson and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Williams will be held 12 o’clock, Tuesday, May 24th at Jones Memorial AME Zion Church, with The Rev. Thelma Gordon, presiding. Mr. Williams will be placed in the church 2 hours prior to the service. For those unable to attend the service will be available via live stream on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
