Shirley “Coonie” Gaither-Young was born on November 19, 1974, in Winnsboro, S.C. Shirley
departed this earthly life on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 11:30 p.m. She was the cherished
daughter to the late Virgil Gaither, Sr. and Ella Lou Murphy-Gaither.
Shirley received her educated in the Fairfield County Public Schools and later She dedicated her
career to helping others as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Pruitt Health of Ridgeway, S.C.
Her nurturing spirit was a gift, and patients often became like family to her, as well as anyone else
who came to know her. Shirley also had a love for animals, especially her dogs but above all, she
cherished her role as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Shirley leaves not to mourn, but to cherish her memory; her sons, Mr. Tyquan Gaither (Elizabeth),
and Mr. LaReginald “Pooh Bear” Young (Brianna) and her daughter, Ms. Regsjai Young (Victoria), all
of Winnsboro, S,C. Her granddaughter; Malayiah Young, whom she raised as her own and her
grandson Kahza Young.
Shirley also leaves to cherish her memory; her sister, Betty Ray (Keith) Yarborough of Virginia Beach,
V.A, her brothers, Virgil Daniel Gaither Jr (Terri) and Fitzgerald (Maricela) Gaither both of Winnsboro,
S.C. Her significant other Jeremy “Buck” Sims, along with eight loving nieces and nephews, one
great niece and two great nephews and a host of extended family and close friends who will forever
honor her memory.
In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her grandmothers Alice May Henry and
Elizabeth Murphy and her grandfathers, Otis Gaither, Sr. and Robert Murphy.
Shirley will be profoundly missed but remembered always for her kind spirit, selflessness, fun and
loving personality and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her. She will forever be in our hearts.
