Willie James Simmons was born June 2, 1945 in Winnsboro, South Carolina to the late Elmore and Mary Byrd Simmons. He was the tenth of twelve children. Willie James transitioned from this life into his eternal rest on May 10, 2021.
Willie James Simmons (Bill, as he was affectionately called) was educated in the Fairfield County public school system. It was there where he met his future wife, the late Christine Thomas. The two were united in marriage on June 24, 1962. After their union, they traveled to Washington D.C., Connecticut, and ultimately decided to make Mount Vernon, New York their home. From that union, they were blessed to have five children: three girls and two boys.
Willie James was employed at EZ Folding and Binding as an Industrial Mechanic for 32 years. After all their children moved out of the home to pursue careers of their own, he and his lovely wife decided to return to Winnsboro, South Carolina. Willie James obtained employment at R.L. Bryan. After working at R.L. Bryan for 5years he decided to retire. He enjoyed family gatherings, vegetable gardening, fishing, swimming, and manicuring his lawn. Bill was a jack of all trades. Willie James attended Greater Faith Temple Church.
Willie James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Christine of 51 years, six brothers and two sisters.
Willie James leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: his children, Gwenda Robinson of Winnsboro, South Carolina; Francine Shaw of Tuckahoe, New York; Derrick (LaTina) Simmons of Rancho Cucamonga, California; Alneida Simmons of Ridgeway, South Carolina; Bryant (Charlene) Simmons of Hamburg, New Jersey; 3 sisters Azzie Lee Pearson and Maggie Watkins of Winnsboro, South Carolina, Frances (James) Watkins of Greensboro, North Carolina; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
The Governor of South Carolina advises limiting public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
